1 review for MINELAB GPX 4500. Dual Coil

  1. Simon

After owning my GPX 4500 for almost a year now I feel confident in giving it a review. It’s a solid performer. It can achieve great depth, far exceeding that of the VLF detectors, it has a bit more of a learning curve than switch on and go detectors like the Gold Monster 1000 however once you understand the detector and its settings the performance is outstanding.

You’ll find gold far deeper than you ever expected, often digging 10+ inches for a nugget weighing a gram or less. It has a huge range of coils available, and some great 3rd party coils which sets it apart from its big brother the GPZ 7000 which is very limited in coil choices.

When fitted with the Nugget Finder 14×9 or 12×8 EVO coil you’ll find its sensitivity to small gold is near to that of a high frequency VLF machine while still having the depth the PI machines are famous for combined with its great ground handling ability.

It even works well on the beach for a bit of jewellery hunting when you want some time off from prospecting.

It can be prone to EMI issues but these can be mitigated by using the DD coil and in severe circumstances going into Cancel mode.

Every serious detecting prospector needs a good PI or GPZ 7000 and High Frequency VLF and for me that combination has been the GPX4500 and Gold Monster 1000, a perfect match.
